Sausage balls and dill mustard dipping sauce

It’s a new year! I hope this post finds everyone happy and determined to make this the best year yet. For New Years Eve my fiancé and I took it easy and stayed in. Living in a college town, less than a mile from a ton of bars made staying in seem the safest route. Instead of a normal dinner I made a bunch of appetizers, lil smokies and meatballs in two sauces, shrimp cocktail, mozzarella sticks, jalapeno poppers and these sausage balls with dipping sauce. My fiancé proclaimed the sauce “good enough to sell”, high praise from someone who isn’t dipping sauce obsessed like I am ;) without further ado, the shockingly simple sausage balls and dipping sauce;

Sausage balls

Ingredients

* 1 lb breakfast sausage

* 8 oz cream cheese, softened

* 2 cups of Bisquick

* 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

* 1 tsp garlic salt

Soften cream cheese in a large bowl, add in raw sausage. Mix well, this can be done with a pastry blade in a mixer but I got down and dirty and used my hands. After cheese and sausage are well combined add in garlic salt and Bisquick mix and combine well. Mix in shredded cheese next. Preheat oven to 350 and form mixture into small balls, placing on baking sheet covered with parchment paper. For best results chill the balls about 10 minutes in the fridge before baking for them to retain shape. Bake for 25 minutes and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Dill mustard dipping sauce

Ingredients

* 2 cups mayo

* 1 cup yellow mustard

* 1/2 cup horseradish mustard

* 1/2 cup spicy brown mustard

* 2 tbsp honey

* 1 tsp Texas Pete hotter than hot sauce

* 3 tbsp dried dill

Mix all ingredients well and refrigerate at least 30 minutes before serving. Store in an air tight container.

This couldn’t be any simpler! Full of taste and a delicious compliment to the sausage balls this sauce would also go well on sandwiches, it went well on the shrimp and jalapeño poppers as well. Give it a try and let me know how you like it!
